New Volunteer Screening Process
New Volunteer Screening Process
There are three general categories of volunteers: community volunteers, parent volunteers, and aspiring teachers. While all volunteers follow the same basic screening steps, there are some key differences. Please refer to the placement processes below.
 
Community Volunteers
These volunteers include: classroom tutors, media center helpers, after school helpers, intergenerational volunteers, and classroom assistants, among others. To place these volunteers:
  1. Fill out community volunteer application online or on paper (PDF).
  2. Attend orientation, either through Volunteer MPS or school site.
  3. Reference check form. At least one reference must be contacted via email or phone.
  4. A criminal background check may be required.
Parent Volunteers
This category includes parents/guardians or other family members who want to get involved at their students’ school. Possible jobs include: field trip chaperone, special school events, parent outreach, or PTA/PTO volunteers. To place these volunteers:
  1. Fill out parent volunteer application online or on paper.
  2. Attend orientation at school site.
  3. Reference check form. At least one reference must be contacted via email or phone.
  4. A criminal background check may be required.
Aspiring Teachers
Any students who are completing required hours either to gain entrance into or as required by their teacher licensure program are considered Aspiring Teacher. To place aspiring teachers:
  1. Fill out aspiring teacher application online or on paper.
  2. Attend orientation through Volunteer MPS.
  3. Reference check form. At least one reference must be contacted via email or phone.
  4. A criminal background check is required for aspiring teachers.
